Leuck and Glassman Win Bergen Peak Half Marathon
Nick Leuck dominated the grueling Bergen Peak Half Marathon on Saturday, Aug. 25, running the 13.1-mile trail race to the top of Bergen Peak in 1 hour, 56 minutes and 45 seconds. Leuck finished almost seven minutes ahead of second-place finisher Andrew Fields, who ran the race in 2:03:30.
Kendra Glassman ran away from the women's field, completing the course in 2:09:49, well ahead of second-place woman Amanda Martin's 2:13:11 effort.
Ninety-seven people competed in the race, which was the fourth event in the 2018 Evergreen Trail Racing Series, five races on challenging mountainous terrain in and around Evergreen put on by Evergreen Park & Recreation District (EPRD).
Only one race remains in the 2018 Evergreen Trail Racing Series, the Fall EverGold 10-Miler on Oct. 6.The Fall EverGold is an out-and-back race in Lair O' the Bear Open Space Park in Idledale that takes runners along Bear Creek and up the mountain toward Pence Park before descending to the finish.

This July is Park & Recreation Month, with the theme A Lifetime of Discovery. Explore the “undiscovered” roles of local parks and recreation with a variety of fun activities planned for residents of all ages and abilities. HighlightsThe highlight of the month is the 3rd annual Community Appreciation Party, which EPRD is co-hosting with the Evergreen Chamber of Commerce on Thu, July 12, from 5-7:30 PMat Buchanan Park Recreation Center. Enjoy free snacks and beverages while learning about EPRD’s many programs, and about senior wellness. All attendees will be entered in a drawing for fun prizes. Free Outdoor Fitness ClassEPRD is also holding a free strength and conditioning/yoga class called Muscles and Yoga that morning at 9:15 AM on Buchanan Field.

Jeff Cuno, fresh off his victory in the Evergreen Mountain 15K in July, won the inaugural Staunton State Park 20K on Sat., Aug. 4, in a blistering 1 hour, 30 minutes and 6 seconds. Brian MacPherson was the second male finisher, in 1:33:55, while Lance Risi finished third in 1:34:22. The first woman was Sara Schuler, who finished fourth overall and almost 12 minutes ahead of her closest competitor, in 1:42:55. Heather Ray was the second woman in 1:54:29 and Amber Miller was third in 1:54:53..
